Project Management

Large Roll-Out Folder Structure and Naming Conventions

An internal department was using as many filing methods as they had people working in the department. I was assigned to write rules and reorganize the server. Through research into the server and meetings/conversations with the individuals in the department I came up with a new server organization method and a few different namespace equations for different file types. Then through rules, training, and assignments we slowly began reorganizing the 185,148 files, and 30,583 folders that were on the server.

Agency Server Organization

Several Internal departments were using files that were being sent in from a few different design agencies, the folder that these files were in was being managed by over 50 different people. One of the first things that we did was cut the read/write access to the folder down to less than 5 people so that all 50 could see and pull files, but only 5 could place files and interact with existing files in the folder. Then I built an empty file structure, and a schedule for moving files into the new structure. I managed 2 production artists through-out the files being moved, we had weekly meetings to assign folders to move and balance the time spent moving with their other projects.
